What goals do you have within the next year - CrossFit and non-CrossFit?
Marisa: Within CrossFit, my main goal is to get handstand walks but I also want to improve other movements like HSPU and double unders. Outside of CrossFit, I want to complete a half marathon.
Tanner:
I'm currently going to CrossFit 3-5x a week, in addition to training for ultra endurance races. My main goal is to complete a 50 mile ultra-marathon within the next year and a half. CrossFit has been a great avenue to maintain my muscular strength and ensure that I am not neglecting the benefits of strength and functional training.
Talk to us about your life outside of the gym - hobbies, favorite meal, music, job etc. Any random facts you want us to know?
Marisa:
I’m currently a dental assistant at Howard County Smiles, but planning on going back to school to pursue nursing. My hobbies include photography, hiking, and line dancing.
Tanner:
In addition to running, I am really into outdoor activities, I have been hiking and snowboarding since 1st grade.
Do you have any advice for people getting started with CrossFit - what's helped you stay consistent and coming back day after day?
Marisa:
No matter how you feel, go anyways because you’ll always feel better after. If your body is sore, there’s always an option to scale to where you need it to be and the community never fails to make your day so much better.
Tanner:
For anyone who is planning on starting, I recommend that you promise yourself that you commit to going consistently for 3 months. If you keep that commitment, it is almost guaranteed that you will see results. For me, the thing that has helped me stay consistent is making the commitment to just step foot into the gym everyday. If I can at least get myself to the gym, the rest will take care of itself, the community is motivating and the workouts are planned out for members, so there's not much thinking after that.
